Application of PTFE in all walks of life

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) has many excellent comprehensive properties and is widely used as corrosion resistant materials, sealing materials, medical materials, filtering materials, aviation materials, etc.

1. Application of filter materials

At present, PTFE fibers are mainly used to make high temperature and corrosion resistant filter materials for flue gas dedusting. Tetrafluoro compensator is made of non-woven high temperature filter material with good corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, flexural resistance, wear resistance, durability, non-water absorption, high filtration efficiency, good size stability, good dust peeling and high strength. It can also undergo different chemical treatment and finishing technologies to achieve higher and newer physical and chemical properties, meet the needs of high temperature flue gas filtration industry, and be suitable for high temperature, high humidity, high viscous dust industry or industrial dust purification with acid-base, corrosive chemical gases and other adverse conditions.

2. Application in anticorrosion and sealing

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) has excellent resistance to high and low temperatures and corrosion. Filled PTFE products have the advantages of lubricating oil chamber, low friction, good wear resistance and dimensional stability. It is widely used in the dynamic and static seals of axles, rods and rotating joints working under high pressure and high speed conditions, various pipelines conveying corrosive gases, high and low pressure pipelines of aircraft hydraulic and cold pressure systems, distillation columns, heat exchangers, tetrafluoro pipelines, valves and other chemical equipment.

3. Application in health care

Since it was used as an artificial blood vessel in clinical practice in the 1960s, PTFE has been proved to have the advantages of good histocompatibility, less rejection, soft and elastic, anti-aging, post-operative fixation, natural shape, safety and reliability, so it has been further extended to the medical field. These include artificial blood vessels and patches for soft tissue regeneration and surgical sutures for blood vessels, heart, general surgery and plastic surgery. In addition, the expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and rubber plastic film constitute a gastroscopic forceps catheter, which has no foreign body reaction when contacted with human body. It can sample human stomach instantly, remove foreign body and polyp, etc.

4. Applications in Space

Space suit is a high-demand protective clothing nowadays. The reusable composite protective material of radioactive dust prepared by PTFE microporous film processed by co-stretching technology can not only prevent radioactive dust from contaminating protective clothing, but also effectively prevent radioactive dust from penetrating protective material. At the same time, it has anti-static and anti-oil properties. It is water-repellent, light and durable. The tear-proof layer of NASA's spacesuit is made of Nomex and PTFE fibers interwoven with Kevlar as protective yarn.

As a special engineering plastics, PTFE plays an increasingly important role because of its excellent comprehensive properties. The filling modification, blending modification, surface modification, chemical modification and structural modification methods of PTFE have improved its performance and expanded its application field, and become more and more important engineering materials.
